How IPA scoring works
Last updated: 7 May 2026
What this does
The Individual Performance Assessment (IPA) is IMPACT's composite performance score for each team member. It aggregates data from multiple sources — task completion, role performance, KPI achievement, and competency ratings — into a single score with percentile ranking.
Current access and functionality
- Verified against the current
impact-web,impact-client, andimpact-marketplacecode on 2026-05-07. - In
impact-web, users must be signed in and working in an active workspace. Navigation and write actions are role-, permission-, and entitlement-aware; unavailable modules are hidden or disabled instead of being universally visible. - Performance and people analytics depend on workspace roles and available data. Setup is primarily web-based; staff visibility is limited to their own or permitted team/member views.
How IPA scores are calculated
IPA scores are calculated based on the roles a person plays in the system. Each role type generates its own score:
| IPA Type | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Member | Overall participation and contribution |
| Actor | Performance as an Action SME — task execution quality and timeliness |
| Verifier | Performance as a Verify SME — review thoroughness and turnaround |
| Curator | Content and knowledge contribution |
| Team Lead (TL) | Team leadership effectiveness |
| Project Manager (PM) | Project delivery and management |
| SME IPA | Individual composite score across all roles |
Scores are stored as JSON, allowing flexible weighting and breakdown by category.
What feeds into IPA
- Task performance — how well and how quickly tasks are completed through the Action → Verify → Accept workflow. Low rework counts and on-time completion improve scores.
- KPI achievement — progress toward assigned KPIs directly contributes to the score.
- Competency ratings — peer and manager ratings on assigned competencies.
- Role activity — how actively the person participates in their assigned roles.
Viewing IPA scores
Individual view
- Go to the Member profile or your Dashboard (if the IPA widget is added).
- The IPA card shows:
- Overall score — your composite IPA score.
- Role breakdown — scores for each role type you hold (Actor, Verifier, PM, etc.).
- Percentile — where you rank compared to others in your IPA group.
Company view
- Admins can view IPA scores across the company.
- Scores are grouped by IPA groups — allowing comparison within meaningful peer sets.
- Company-level IPA data shows trends and distribution.
IPA groups and percentiles
Team members are placed into IPA groups for fair comparison. Each group tracks:
- Score — the absolute IPA score.
- Percentile — relative ranking within the group (e.g., 85th percentile means you scored higher than 85% of the group).
Company-specific IPA groups allow different scoring contexts per company for users who belong to multiple workspaces.
Tips
- IPA scores update periodically (not in real time). Check the last updated timestamp to know how current the data is.
- Focus on improving the role-specific scores that are most relevant to your work. If you are primarily an Action SME, your Actor score matters most.
- Rework counts significantly impact IPA. Getting tasks right the first time through the Action → Verify → Accept workflow is the fastest way to improve your score.
- Admins can trigger a company-wide IPA reindex to recalculate all scores.
Common issues
- Issue: IPA score is not updating — Fix: IPA recalculation runs on a schedule, not in real time. Wait for the next recalculation cycle or ask an admin to trigger a reindex.
- Issue: Score seems low despite completing tasks — Fix: Check your rework counts. Tasks that were sent back for rework during Verify or Accept stages reduce your Actor score.
- Issue: No percentile shown — Fix: Percentiles require enough members in the IPA group for meaningful comparison. Small groups may not show percentiles.
