How to create a project
Last updated: 7 May 2026
What this does
Create a new project in IMPACT to organise work into tasks, milestones, and deliverables. Projects are the top-level container for all planned work within a company.
Current access and functionality
- Verified against the current
impact-web,impact-client, andimpact-marketplacecode on 2026-05-07. - In
impact-web, users must be signed in and working in an active workspace. Navigation and write actions are role-, permission-, and entitlement-aware; unavailable modules are hidden or disabled instead of being universally visible. - Project creation and management are available to company admins, owners, project coordinators, and project managers according to the permission matrix. Project members may only see assigned or permitted project content.
Before you start
- You must be logged in as an admin or have project creation permissions.
- You need a company set up in IMPACT.
Steps
- Navigate to the Projects section from the main menu.
- Click Create Project.
- Fill in the project details:
- Short Name — a brief label for the project (shown in lists and dashboards).
- Full Name — the complete project name.
- Description — what the project is about and its objectives.
- Set the Baseline Start Date and Baseline End Date — these define the planned timeline.
- Optionally configure:
- Project Type — categorise the project (e.g., internal, client, R&D).
- Work Classification and Work Type — further categorisation for reporting.
- Tags — custom labels for filtering and searching.
- Assign a Primary Project Manager — this person has full control over the project.
- Optionally assign Co-Project Managers for shared oversight.
- Click Save to create the project.
Tips
- Set realistic baseline dates upfront — IMPACT uses these for burndown tracking and schedule health.
- Use tags to organise projects by department, client, or priority so they are easy to find later.
- You can duplicate an existing project to save time if the new project has a similar structure.
Common issues
- Issue: Cannot create a project — Fix: Check that your user role has project creation permissions. Contact your admin if needed.
- Issue: Project does not appear in the list — Fix: Check your filters. Projects may be filtered by status or tag.
