How to use project templates and playbooks
Last updated: 7 May 2026
What this does
Explains current project template functionality in IMPACT Web. Project templates are exposed as Playbooks: reusable project structures with tasks, milestones, teams, risks, and related planning data.
Current access and functionality
- Verified against the current
impact-web,impact-client, andimpact-marketplacecode on 2026-05-07. - In
impact-web, project templates are listed and edited under/playbookand related playbook detail routes. - Project and playbook access depends on workspace role, project role, selected workspace, feature flags, and entitlement checks.
- Project creation and management are available to company admins, owners, project coordinators, and project managers according to the permission matrix.
- Marketplace project/playbook purchases create marketplace inventory/template access; importing them into a workspace happens through IMPACT Web import flows.
Before you start
- You need an active workspace.
- You need permission to create or manage projects/playbooks in that workspace.
- For marketplace templates, acquire the template in
impact-marketplacefirst so it appears in inventory/My Templates.
Steps
Opening playbooks
- Open Playbooks from the sidebar when available.
- Select a playbook from the list.
- Review the playbook summary, tasks, milestones, teams, risks, documents, and other tabs.
- Edit allowed sections if you have management access.
Creating a project from a playbook or template
- Start project creation from the Projects area.
- Choose the marketplace/playbook/template import option when available.
- Select the target workspace and source template.
- Review the generated structure before confirming.
- Create the project and adjust assignments, dates, teams, and risks for the real project.
Importing a marketplace project template
- Purchase or acquire the project template in
impact-marketplace. - In
impact-web, open a project/playbook import action. - Select the purchased template, version, and target workspace.
- Confirm import. The imported project/playbook is a copy that can be customised.
Common issues
- Issue: Playbooks are missing from the sidebar. Fix: Check workspace role, selected workspace, feature flags, and entitlement.
- Issue: A user can view a playbook but cannot edit it. Fix: Editing requires project/template management permission.
- Issue: A marketplace project template is not available to import. Fix: Confirm it is purchased under the same account and the destination workspace is active.
