Best practices for mobile field work

Last updated: 7 May 2026

What this does

Use this guide to help staff work reliably in impact-client, especially when tasks, checklists, uploads, and sync matter in the field.

Current access and functionality

  • Verified against the current impact-client, impact-web, and impact-marketplace code on 2026-05-07.
  • impact-client supports day-to-day work such as assigned tasks, checklists, surveys, projects, notifications, and workspace switching.
  • Some checklist and task updates can be stored locally and synced later.
  • Upload-heavy evidence such as files, images, videos, and location inputs needs device permissions and a stable connection.

Daily field routine

  1. Open the app and confirm the correct workspace.
  2. Check notifications and assigned tasks before starting work.
  3. Open each task and review checklist evidence requirements.
  4. Capture photos, files, notes, or location data while the work is fresh.
  5. Save or submit results before leaving the site.
  6. Reconnect and refresh before assuming teammates can see your updates.

Offline practices

  • Open key tasks while online before going into poor coverage areas.
  • Avoid editing the same task from multiple devices while offline.
  • Do not uninstall or clear app data while unsynced work may exist.
  • Reopen task/checklist screens after reconnecting so pending updates can sync.

Admin practices

  • Keep checklist items clear enough for mobile use.
  • Avoid very long checklist items that are hard to read on a phone.
  • Use file/image inputs only where evidence is truly required.
  • Train staff to check workspace selection before reporting missing work.

Common issues

  • Issue: A field user says work disappeared. Fix: Check workspace, filters, assignment, and sync status.
  • Issue: Uploads fail repeatedly. Fix: Check permissions, file size, connection quality, and retry from the checklist item.
  • Issue: Checklist evidence is incomplete. Fix: Rewrite checklist items to specify exactly what photo, file, value, or note is needed.
